Kimochis

Homeroom 8 are very lucky to have the award winning Kimochi range joining our POD this year.  Kimochi's are toys that our students can use to talk about their feelings and are a fantastic teaching tool for learning what to do in different social situations and dealing with different emotions.

How they work:

Meet Cloud, Bug and Huggtopus...

Cat and Lovey Dove.

Each Kimochi toy has it's own unique personality traits:
Bug does not like change and can be scared to try new things, Huggtopus can be very physical and unaware of other people's physical boundaries, Cat can be bossy and controlling but also likes to help others, especially if they are hurt.
Each toy reflects personality traits (good and bad) that are found in all of us and teaches our kids how to act or react to different situations.

Each toy comes with a pocket or pouch over it's tummy (where we feel different emotions) and the kids are encouraged to use the bag of feelings by placing them inside the toys.  These can be feelings they are experiencing (for example: nervous) or would like to be feeling (for example: brave)  During the year we will be using the toys and bag of feelings to model different situations and how to act or react in these.

The children in Homeroom 8 are already using the Kimochi's as a way of expressing themselves and learning about each other.
I am sure we will have many positive experiences with this wonderful resource.
